According to Wikipedia, Ambient music is described as “ a genre of music that puts an emphasis on tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm. Ambient music is said to evoke an ‘atmospheric’, ‘visual’, or ‘unobtrusive’ quality…” This is not a genre for those looking to “rock out” or dance…although, maybe some of you could. One of the most important things I find in this music is the meditative quality, or the trance-like state it creates. As someone who meditates and enjoys various spiritual practices, I find this to be a great companion.
So how do you listen to this stuff? It’s meant for relaxation. Put it on when you’re looking to de-stress; Read a book, pay bills, lower your anxiety, or write, whatever. You don’t have to focus on it, it wouldn’t hurt me to know you may have put it on while sleeping. This is just the beginning of my new “Guitarspheres” endeavors; Aside from Skyshapes, I plan on working more with this kind of music.
